Elisha: a duct that should have closed
Elisha Joseph had a patent ductus arteriosus, a blood vessel that should close after birth but did not. It was holding back his growth.
Elisha had a patent ductus arteriosus, known as PDA. It is a blood vessel near the heart that normally closes soon after birth. In Elisha it stayed open, and it was holding back his growth.
Elisha received his cardiac treatment during our paediatric surgical mission at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, held from 22 to 27 July 2021. You can watch a short video from that time below.
